How To Ditch Your Fairy

Hello readers, once again I apologize for my late post.I'm trying to post it as fast as I could(Okay maybe I didn't try to hard)anyway this week I read How To Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier. It is not a book that I would normally read but Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan(The Demon's Lexicon series) collaborated on a book so I decided to read one of Justine Larbalestier's work first before reading that book. This book was publishe in the year 2008 and it is a just a standalone.(Rarely do I have the chance to say that)

The High and The Low
.I really like Fiorenza and Stefan
.The story had a somewhat interesting concept

.I didn't like the ending
.The story was lacking in detail and depth

Quick Summary
In this world almost everyone has fairies. They give the person a certain luck or special ability like the parking fairy which will make that everytime you want to park somewhere there will be a parking spot for you. While a lot of people might enjoy this fairy Charlie does not.She hates cars and she hates that everyone keeps dragging her around so that they would have a great parking spot. She decided to not ride a car anymore until her fairy is gone so by doing that she gets into a lot of trouble because she keeps arriving late at school.Charlie likes the new boy Stefan and while Stefan seems to like Charlie too it seems that their relationship will not work because of Fiorenza. She has the All Boys Will Like You Fairy and every time she's int the picture all boys including Stefan can't help but to adore her.Charlie also has trouble with a boy named Andrews who keeps forcing Charlie to enter his car so he will get a great parking space............................That's all I guess

The Conclusion
I'm sorry to say but I was quite dissapointed by this book I really did try to like it but the book simply didn't live up to my expactation. The story did had an interesting concept but it never fully explored on what it could have been.I also felt that the story lack detail the author should  take a lesson from Robin McKinley. While normally I don't mind if books lacked detail I found out that the book could have gone so much better if it was more descriptive and the story also lack depth while I know the author probably wrote this book for young teenage girls it doesn't give her the excuse to write a good set of characters.I mean look at Marilyn Kaye while her story wasn't all that great her characters had more depth I could feel them. While this book only suppllied with empty named shells(Especially you Heather and Sandra) I also hated the ending it was simply too vague while some books are better left like that this book was not one of them I mean and it is pretty Ironic considering the advice Charlie gave to Tamsin.I also hated Charlie because I felt that she didn't learn a single thing from all of this. The saving grace of this book was its humour and Fiorenza.Fiorenza was the only character who had depth(Still lacking though)she also understood on what I hoped Charlie learn from this experience .After reading i'm wondering on what will happen to that book she's writing together with Sarah Rees Brennan.I'm just hoping that Sarah Rees Brennan is the one who makes the character.

Castle In The Air

As you know I have been very tight with my money lately and I've been trying to minimize my spending by borrowing books from my little brother and sister(there are no library around my house)Sadly the've been quite cross with me because I have been rummaging through their shelf for two month so they've decided to ban me from reading their book for a whole month.Since I did not have a new book I decided to reread a book I had not read for more than 3 years..The book was Castle In The Air.It is a book written by my favourite author Diana Wynne Jones. It is the second book of the series. The first one was Howl's Moving Castle. One of my favourite book,I've wrote my review for it about one and a half year ago(for my first year celebration)Anyway this book is published in the year !990,four years after the first one was published.

The High and Low
.The story has a great theme(One Thousand and One Night)
.The characters are great as always

.The story felt a little bit inferior to its predecessor

Quick Summary\
This story tells a story at a country far away from Ingrary.Abdullah is a carpet merchant(A quite succesful one)he works all day trying to make a living and trying to avoid his hateful relatives who has always been dissapointed on him.Oneday he acquired a magic carpet that could fly from a mysterious stranger. On that night while he was sleeping(He was sleeping on the magic carpet for fearing the carpet would fly to it's previous owner when he is sleeping)the carpet send him to a castle. There he meets a princess named Flower In The Night. At first she mistakes him as a girl because she has never seen another man besides her father and he was wearing long clothes and a turban not to mention it was very dark.Anyway they had a little talk.Flower In The Night has never seen another man besides her father and Abdullah but she is going to be wed very soon but because she doesn't know much about men she flt really anxious.Abdullah decided that he will come here again tomorrow and bring her pictures of men from around the world.......................That's all I'm going to tell.

The Conclusion
Diana Wynne Jones is one of the best fantasy author and here she proves yet again that she is not giving that title to anyone(I'm sorry J K Rowling). The story has a great theme which is A thousand and one night. As a fantasy lover I have always loved reading it and here Diana Wynne Jones do justice to its theme. The story was fun, humourous and imaginative and the characters are great(Diana Wynne Jones has a knack of making amazing characters)The only thing that I might complain was the story felt somewhat inferior to Howl's Moving Castle.Don't get me wrong Castle In Sky is amazing but to me Howl's Moving Castle is one of the best book ever read so of course Castle In The Sky couldn't match up to it.To tell you the truth I felt quite sad writing this review.I simply couldn't use past tense when I was talking about Diana wynne Jones. She was definitely a great fantasy author but the sad thing was she never received the fame or credit like her peers did. Here is my last thanks to a wonderful author who let me know how wonderful it is to read a book.
Thank You Diana Wynne Jones,we will cherish your books forever.

Unbroken

Hello dear reader as you know lately I have been reading books that are more suitable for young teens/kids but just like I promised last week I read a book leaning toward the young adult section. You may remember that I wrote that I felt tired of young adults book and I wanted to take a break from them unless I found a book that I really wanted to read.Unbroken is written by Sarah Rees Brennan. The author of The Demon's Lexicon series you may remember that I was a fan of her for that series,I even gave the Demon's Covenant a full rating so naturally I felt excited on getting this book.As you already know this book is written by Sarah Rees Brennan and it was published in 2012.Let see if this book will get the same response as the Demon's Lexicon series

The High and Low
.Great characters especially Kami, she reminded me of Mae(A character in The Demon's Lexicon series and If you still remember my review you should know on how much I adored her character)
.Great story concept far more interesting than any of young adult books I have read for a while
.Great cover

.The story started pretty slow
.The book felt to similiar to The demon's Lexicon series

Quick Summary
Kami is a girl who have an imaginary friend and while you may think it's fine for children what is your opinion if you know she is a full grown teenager.Kami a journalist wannabe and her friend the beautiful yet lazy Angela decided to make a newspaper for the school. She decided to investagate about the Lynburn(a family that used to live here and now they're back and weirdly a lot of people seemed to be afraid of them)After a while she managed to meet both Ash and Jared Lynburn(they are cousins)to her suprise Jared is actually her "Imaginary friend"At first both of them freaks out but after a while they decide to investagate on why they have this connection............................................................That's all for now sorry.

The Conclusion
Unspoken is really an entertaining book.Sarah Rees Brenna once again succeeded on making a great mysterious dark fantasy with a great sense of humour not to mention it's great cast of characters. The characters was simply one of the best aspect of the story.Kami really reminded me of Mae(Mae still wins)and most of the supporting characters are simply wonderful(Specifically Lillian and Holly)The story also had a great concept. While it isn't exactly the most original great authors know how to make something feel fresh eventhough it's the most used theme of the century and here is just what she did.The cover was also nice. The only thing was the story started pretty slow while The Demon's Lexicon series gained it's momentum quickly this book is a somewhat late bloomer and I also felt that the book was too similiar to The Demon's Lexicon series while I really liked that series I would like the author to step out of her comfort zone and shows what she can really do.Unspoken is certainly a great way to start what I'm hoping to be better than the Demon's Lexicon series.
