The Island Of Chaldea

I decided to take a break from the type of books I recently read and go back to basics, yes I'm talking about a Diana Wynne Jonesbook. For all of you that may have been lurking around here for a while will know that she is simply my favourite author, I have yet to find an author that could rival her and secretly I wish I never will. Actually I bought this book about two month ago but I've didn't read it until a couple days ago. When I first saw the book on the shelf I nearly had a heart attack. For all of you who doesn't know, Diana Wynne Jones passed away on 2011. Of course I was more than shocked to see a new book by her, I bought the book without any second thought but truthfully, the reason I read the book two month after I bought it was because I was simply terrified. The book was written by Diana Wynne Jones but unfortunately, she passed away before she could finish it so her young sister Ursula Jones decided to take the mantle and finish it for her. Because of that I was scared that it wouldn't fullfill my expectation. But, enough with me prattling. Let's just go on with the review, as you already know I read The Island of Chaldea, it is a stand alone book. The book was published in 2014 and was finished by Ursula Jones.

The High and Low
.The characters were likable and memorable as one would expect from a Diana Wynne Jones Book.
.The cover was beautiful.
.I really liked the concept of the story.

.I wasn't quite satisfied with the ending

Quick Summary
All women in Aileen's family had always possessed magical abilities but unfortunately for her because of a misunderstanding she may never realize her true potential, because she was ashamed of her mistake she lied to her aunt and said that nothing happened to her when she stayed at the cave. Befroe she could even think of a plan on how to fix this problem Ogo a boy from Logra who was abandoned on Skarr when he was but a small chil came to see her aunt saying that  the king requested for her to meet him. There the king requested that she and her aunt will travel to Logra to see what they're planning. However, Logra has been unaccesible to them since the had locked themselves a way using a big force field to surround their land but they hear that if the bring a represantative from each land while travelling to logra they would be able topass through the shield. Without even letting them prepare themselves the king sent Aileen, her aunt, Ivar the young prince of Skarr, and Ogo.....................................that's all I'm going to write and sorry if my summary is somewhat hard to comprehend.

The conclusion
I'm going to start with pointing out with the positive. The characters were very likable and memorable, not the best Diana has made but certainly great by any standard. I truly liked the concept of the story, the four island, the guardians, their journey, the cover was also beautiful. Now for the negative, I really liked the story, it does have its flaws but then again most book does, but once it reached near the end it loses its momentum. I felt that some of part was unsatisfactory and some were simply empty, this is somewhat understandble for you see Ursula Jones was the one who wrote the ending and unfortunately Diana had not left a single note for her, so she had to figure out everything by herself. Ursula is a good writer, she does what she can but unfortunately it may not be enough to end the book with a stong note. For anyone not familiar with Diana Wynne Jones they might enjoy this book throughly but for hardcore fans like myself they might some find flaws on the book.

Rating: 8 out of 10

When I looked at some reviews a lot of people can't seem to detect where Diana stops and let Ursula take the mantle. I'm not very confident myself but truthfully I think I know where.
You may be a little bit suprised with the rating with what I have said. Ursula is a good writer, I don't now whether she tried to copy or its her own but her writing style can be comparable to her sister which is good. I was just a little bit disappointed with how everything turn out. It was good but truthfully I expected the book to last at least for another hundred pages. So logically I felt the book somewhat hollow.

Anyway I'll try to post the next chapter for my book as soon as I can.
