Hey everyone as always it's been quite a while. As you all know this is the last day of the year and I haven't been proud of myself how I handled my blog I wrote only a couple of chapters this year and I also provided less than 10 book reviews and yet all of you still visit my blog. Truthfully, I have been busy with my work and some small projects I've been working on but I should have known to schedule my time more properly. I sincirely hope that I will change next year so here's a toast for me and for all of you hoping for a good year.

Daughter of The Forest

Hi everyone, today I'm actually going to post my first book review in month. I actually finished the book about two month ago but never got the chance to post the review until today. Daughter of the Forest is written by Juliet Marillier and was published back in 1999. The book is loosely based on the six swans, the book was praised for the authors writing and understanding towards the subject. it is the first book of the six part series.

The High and The Low
.I loved that the story was based on the six swans
.Sorcha was a great character, the supporting cast was pretty good
.The story was beautifully written

.I wasn't happy by the fact that the villian never got what she deserved
.I was sad with how the story ended

Quick Summary
The Lord of Sevenwates is blessed with seven children, six sons and a daughter. His wife died giving birth to his daughter, and since then he has been grieving, not only that he aslo ignore Sorcha. as such she was basically raised by her six elder brothers who has their own traits. One day, her father brings a woman to their home introducing as his beloved, one of the brothers is also smitten with the woman. All of the others felt suspicious toward the woman and decided to call the for help from the spirits. Unfortunately, the woman managed to stop their plan by turning each of the brothers into swan. Sorcha managed to escape and by the help of the spirits she managed to learn that to change her brothers back she needed to spin six shirts from starwort and never utters a word during her mission or her brothers would never be human again........................................That's all for the summary

The Conclusion
I decided to buy this book because I've been craving a truly great fantasy book for a while and when I learned that the book was based on the six swans i didn't waste my time to visit the counter. The Six Swans has always been one of my favourite story from Brother's grimmand I can honestly say that the book did its source justice. Sorcha is a truly strong character yet she also shows enough vulnerability to make her character memorable. The six brothers were also great each of them was different, making readers easily remembering all of them. The book was also written beautifully, truthfully I can't remeber how to describe it I just remembered that I was quite impressed by her writing. However, i wasn't quite happy with the ending, to me it seemed just a little bit too sad. I mean the girl who was forced to spin six shirts from a very painful material, keeps her mouth closed for years, live in country who dislikes her people, and more you would expect a happier ending. Sorcha was happy but to me she and her family deserved more than what they had gotten. Lastly, I know that this is the six part series but I seriously wanted the woman get what she deserved. Daughter of the forest is a beautifully written book filled with great cast of characters, it is not a light book and it doesn't provide a truly happy ever but it is definitely worth to be read.

The Island Of Chaldea

I decided to take a break from the type of books I recently read and go back to basics, yes I'm talking about a Diana Wynne Jonesbook. For all of you that may have been lurking around here for a while will know that she is simply my favourite author, I have yet to find an author that could rival her and secretly I wish I never will. Actually I bought this book about two month ago but I've didn't read it until a couple days ago. When I first saw the book on the shelf I nearly had a heart attack. For all of you who doesn't know, Diana Wynne Jones passed away on 2011. Of course I was more than shocked to see a new book by her, I bought the book without any second thought but truthfully, the reason I read the book two month after I bought it was because I was simply terrified. The book was written by Diana Wynne Jones but unfortunately, she passed away before she could finish it so her young sister Ursula Jones decided to take the mantle and finish it for her. Because of that I was scared that it wouldn't fullfill my expectation. But, enough with me prattling. Let's just go on with the review, as you already know I read The Island of Chaldea, it is a stand alone book. The book was published in 2014 and was finished by Ursula Jones.

The High and Low
.The characters were likable and memorable as one would expect from a Diana Wynne Jones Book.
.The cover was beautiful.
.I really liked the concept of the story.

.I wasn't quite satisfied with the ending

Quick Summary
All women in Aileen's family had always possessed magical abilities but unfortunately for her because of a misunderstanding she may never realize her true potential, because she was ashamed of her mistake she lied to her aunt and said that nothing happened to her when she stayed at the cave. Befroe she could even think of a plan on how to fix this problem Ogo a boy from Logra who was abandoned on Skarr when he was but a small chil came to see her aunt saying that  the king requested for her to meet him. There the king requested that she and her aunt will travel to Logra to see what they're planning. However, Logra has been unaccesible to them since the had locked themselves a way using a big force field to surround their land but they hear that if the bring a represantative from each land while travelling to logra they would be able topass through the shield. Without even letting them prepare themselves the king sent Aileen, her aunt, Ivar the young prince of Skarr, and Ogo.....................................that's all I'm going to write and sorry if my summary is somewhat hard to comprehend.

The conclusion
I'm going to start with pointing out with the positive. The characters were very likable and memorable, not the best Diana has made but certainly great by any standard. I truly liked the concept of the story, the four island, the guardians, their journey, the cover was also beautiful. Now for the negative, I really liked the story, it does have its flaws but then again most book does, but once it reached near the end it loses its momentum. I felt that some of part was unsatisfactory and some were simply empty, this is somewhat understandble for you see Ursula Jones was the one who wrote the ending and unfortunately Diana had not left a single note for her, so she had to figure out everything by herself. Ursula is a good writer, she does what she can but unfortunately it may not be enough to end the book with a stong note. For anyone not familiar with Diana Wynne Jones they might enjoy this book throughly but for hardcore fans like myself they might some find flaws on the book.

Rating: 8 out of 10

When I looked at some reviews a lot of people can't seem to detect where Diana stops and let Ursula take the mantle. I'm not very confident myself but truthfully I think I know where.
You may be a little bit suprised with the rating with what I have said. Ursula is a good writer, I don't now whether she tried to copy or its her own but her writing style can be comparable to her sister which is good. I was just a little bit disappointed with how everything turn out. It was good but truthfully I expected the book to last at least for another hundred pages. So logically I felt the book somewhat hollow.

Anyway I'll try to post the next chapter for my book as soon as I can.

Thank You Everyone

I just opened my blog and I realized that last month I had a lot of visitors (A lot by my standard that is)
I want to thank all of you for sparing your time to take a look at my blog, I mean seriously I'm still using the aincent template that I had when I first started. I know that I still don't have one follower but I'm still grateful that people do come to take a look at my blog. I'll try to post a couple of reviews and the latest chapter for my story this month.

Thank you once more

Snapshot

I know that I had promised you three reviews, I promise that I haven't been slacking off. If you read the post before this, you would know that I've been sick, I'm not completely healthy yet but I'm good enough to write this review. Two weeks ago I read a book called Snapshot, it is the second book of The Jamieson Brothers Series, this book focuses on Adam Jamieson, the lead guitarist. It is written by Angie Stanton and it was published in 2012.

The High and Low
.The supporting characters were more memorable this time around.
.Just like the first book I liked the cover.

.Like the first book I found something lacking.
.The eldest Jamieson brother is starting to get on my nerve.

Quick Summary
Marti Hunter hates anyone who has anything to do with rock and roll or its lifestyle because of her parents. During the summer her granmother enrolled her into and art camp, there she meets Adam Jamieson.

Adam Jamieson is tired of their crazy lifestyle. He is ecstactic to have two weeks to himself, he cut his well known hair and enrolled himself  with a different name into an art camp hoping to experience the life of a normal teenager at least for a while, there he meets Marti Hunter.............................That's all I guess.

The conclusion
Truthfully, I have to say that the story was stronger and felt more realistic compered to its predessecor. The characters have more interaction with each other's life and the supporting characters were also stronger. Like the first book I found the story lacking something, maybe because their relationship went a little bit quicker than I expected it to be. Anyway, The eldest brother is starting to annoy me, apparentally he have not learn anything since the first book. I truly wonder what kind of person would be paired with him. Personally, I really liked her father. She remembers him as being a really terrible father and truthfully, he really is. But, deep down he does cares for his daughter, its just he tends to be really irresponsible. Without the father the book wouldn't be the same. The only thing I could say is that if you're looking for a nice lite romance with a kooki father for a side dish you should definitely read this book.

Rating: 7 out of 10

(The first book was more of a low seven while this book gets a high seven)

Happy Anniversary

By now all of you must realised that I have yet to post anything this month, I did promise three reviews and I will try my best to keep my promise. Anyway I have a reasonable excuse for my disapperance, for first half of the month I have been promoting this blog on Yahoo Answer. I think about 99% of you came here because of that. So now you're obviously wondering what I've been doing for about the ten remaining days. To be frank, I've been writing, sadly my IBM Lotus Symphony still isn't working so I as forced to use another software to write my stories for now. If all had been going as plannned you might have gotten a new chapter this month but sadly I have fallen incredibly sick. Right at this moment I feel like the world is spinnning. I'm not even sure if there are any spelling mistake on this post. For now I ask you to bear with me I promise to do my best.

Thank you to all my readers

I'm sorry for the delay

Like I said on my last post I will try to put out my newest chapter as soon as possible and I seriously intended on keeping my word. However, a couple days ago when I tried using my IBM Lotus Symphony I encounterd some problems. Everytime I try to access to something this pops up

Could not create the view: com.ibm.symphony.internal.Native (initialization failure)

I'm really stressed now, I'm not really good on handling things like this(A reason why my blog template is practically aincent) If any of you readers have enountered such problem I would be happy to receive any advice.

I forgot to mention that is the 4th anniversary for my blog and sadly I still have zero followers at least the number of visitors have been increasing, so for that I thank all of you. Truthfully, I wanted to publish a short story for this anniversary, I guess I just have to write three reviews this month as a compensation. (I haven't posted three reviews in a single month in over a year)

Happy Reading

Rock and a Hard Place

Hello everyone, long time no see. I haven't been posting anything for almost two months, which is pretty irresponsible considering people still visit my blog regularly. And if you're wondering, the next chapter for my book will most likely be out late this month. For a couple of month, I've been craving to read a good romantic book. I've tried searching for some, and this is my first pit-stop. You might be seeing some romance book for the next couple book reviews. Enough about me and let's get on with this review. I've read Rock and a Hard Place, it is a book written by Angie Stanton and it was published in 2011. It is the first book of The Jamieson Collection series, the first book focuses onn Peter, the lead singer and leader of the band.

The High and the Low
.The book is a nice, light read
.I have to say that I actually liked the cover.

.Somehow I felt the story lacked something
.The character wasn't as memorable as I hoped them to be

Summary
Libby is an eighteen year old girl who lives with her aunt after being ditched by her father, she mostly keeps away from other people. She tends to stay near her home (which is not in the city) and just draw the day away until one day she sees a tour bus stopping near where she usually sits. There she meeth Peter Jamieson the lead singer of the Jamieson, Since she rarely watches the telivision and hear the radio, she doesn't recognize them.

Peter is the leader of the band, every girl wants to date him. Truthfully he is sick and tired of all of it, he wants to feel like a normal kid which is impossible when you're basically the most popular boyband in the country. One day he meets a young girl named Libby, he expect her to fawn over him like any other girl does, suprisingly she doesn't even know them. ..................................................that's all for the summary

The conclusion
I have a somewhat mixed reaction to this book, the book was nice and light like I expected it to be, but I felt that it lacked something that made the book empty. I'm suspecting that it was because that Peter doesn't interact much between Libby's life while Libby doesn't interact in his. I have to say that I actually liked the cover of this book (it's the one where Libby is hugging Pter), some of you might know that I loath cover with real people on it but in this case it barely showed their faces and the colour and background of the book suited it tremendously. The biggest downside was that the supporting character wasn't strong enough, like I said before they rarely cross with other people in their life which made them somehow empty. Anyone. who's looking to read a nice young adult romance book is welcome to read it but don't expect much or you might be disappointed.

Rating: 7 out of 10

(I've thought of giving this book a six but I decided that it deserved more, until next time)

Witch Finder

I bet that you have tried reading the title a couple of time. Not that I ould blame you I haven't written a book review in ages (About 6 Months to be exact) and as you know I've been terribly busy with work and eventhough I had promised to write my book review again and again I never did. Since the next chapter of my book is only going to come out next month, I felt that I owed you guys something so here we are. Actually I finished reading this book for quite some time but only know I managed to make a review for it.
Witch Finder is a book written by Ruth Warburton, it is the first book of the Witch Finder series and it was published in 2014.

The High and Low
.I loved the cover and the illustration
.It had a nice setting
.I found Luke refreshing

.It never did quite live up to its premise
.I felt that most of the characters to be somewhat bland

Quick Summary
Lucas had always dreamed of avenging his parents by hunting down the witch that killed them and he was finally going to have a chance to fulfill that dream by joining Malleus Maleficorum, a group dedicated to hunting and killing witches. Before he could join he needed to complete the rite passage, he managed to complete the first two easily but for the last one he needed to kill his first witch. Luke picked a random witch from their book and was givenn a month to fulfill the deed or find himself being killed.

Rosa is a young powerful witch, sadly, since her father died( the only one she considered to be her family, other than her horse) they have been living in what I call rich man's poverty. Her mother and brother forces her to marry Sebastian, her brother's best friend and also the son of one of the most important figure in the witch world. As expected Rosa doesn't want to marry him (who could blame her, he literally beat a dog to death) but have no other choice since it is the only way to elevate her family once again............................That's it I guess.

The Conclusion
To be frank with all of you, I know I'm not a good book book critic. I try to look sophisticated in my book review but obviously failed but I do realize that I am getting better. Especially since I have started written my own story. Witch Finder had a really interesting premise, I mean Luke had the power to see witches and apparentally Rosa is a very powerful witch but I felt the author didn't use their skill to their full extent. Luke did use his power but Rosa barely used her magic and if she did it was mostly simple spells. As usual, I will give one thums up on books that have a Nice cover or Illustration. Luckily, this book had both of them. The illustrations are mostly drawing of items like hammer, ring, needle, etc but I felt that it added a certain charm, as for the cover long time readers should know that I don't particularly like cover with real people on it. Fortunately the cover did not grace us the face of the person who was meant to be Rosa, and they also put some nice illustration around her. While I found most of the characters to be balnd to my liking, I adored Luke. I found him a little bit refresing to most guys on the young adult category. I found him relatable and I also liked that he acted his age. Some characters usually acted to old or was simply to immature for their age but I found him to be just right. To me the author managed to create him with a certain edge but managed to give him the youth he rightfully owned. To put it blankly, Witch Finder isn't particularly great but it isn't particularly bad either so I guess it's up to all of you if you just want to write a decent book.
